knife giveaway

score! another after-midnight post to take care of tomorrow's nablopomo :) i'm not lazy.. just forgetful.

anyway, the reason behind the late posting is that there is a knife giveaway at steamykitchen! fantastic knives! and the winner gets to pick out their knife! it was hard for me to decide - do you go for the most expensive, or the one you would like the most. i went for a fancy handled, mid-price 6-inch knife.

wish me luck!

polygamists

TLC is rotting my brain (or enriching it?) - i can't stop watching!

first there was half ton mom, then 1100-lb dad - and now, a documentary on polygamists! there is no way that i am getting anything done before bedtime. including write a thought-provoking blog entry.

better hope there's nothing good on tomorrow night :)

crazy weather

since when is it supposed to be 67 degrees in the middle of November?! and tornadoes? in the northeast? what?!

just to be clear, there were no actual tornadoes, but there were tornado watches. which is still ridiculous. in any event, none of this bizarro weather should be happening. hello, global warming - oh, what's that? you're real? no way.

side note

i really shouldn't waste a post when i could use it for tomorrow, but two things:

1. i am currently #1 in nate's fantasy football league he dared me to join. suck it, boys!

2. i cannot get the phrase "hot bed of political action" out of my head. where did i hear this? why can i not forget it?!

that is all, goodnight.

another close call!

almost didn't use the computer before bedtime because i thought, "hey, i should go to bed before 11pm." fail.

i was looking through my old photos and decided to do a snapshot timeline. of like three pictures. so here we go.

ONE YEAR AGO - hertel ave, buffalo

north park theatre

TWO YEARS AGO - traveling up north to visit nate's brother

THREE YEARS AGO - holy crap, this was three years ago!? (junior year)

FOUR YEARS AGO - ugly, the best fish ever

so cold

i love the fact that so many other people are doing NaBloPoMo that inevitably I will read one blog that said "I almost forgot to post today" and I am reminded. thank you millions of other NaBloPoMo'ers.

today was one of those days where everything takes so much longer to do than it should and hours drip by. actually, come to think of it, this whole week was terrible. i got lost on my way to work monday, wore knee-highs instead of pantyhose and ended up with them at my ankles on tuesday and thought it was thursday today until i got home and realized tomorrow was not friday. and then remember NaBloPoMo. it should be called NaBloBitchMo.

i am so funny.

texting.

me: most recent kate & nate fight just ended with tub of margarine flying across the room. in case you missed us.

j (old roommate): is the margarine ok?

me: mostly.

j: what was the fight about?

me: whether or not it was a good idea to chest pass the margarine container.

j: i sure do miss you two.

in other news, nate and i discovered the "photobooth" option in my laptops photobooth:

new music.. uh.. friday!

i was going to have a theme... like "new music tuesdays" or something equally themey, but since i am so great at updating, new music _____days will have to do.

today's new music isn't really new per say.. its from october 2007, but its new to me and probably alot of non-british people. i love this song's basic chord progression and adele's voice is hauntingly beautiful.

plus i'm a sucker for string lights.

so without further ado, here's adele with hometown glory:

calendarz

i feel like this may be cheating, since i'm still up from last night, but hey - it's officially thursday, i can legally write this post and count it for thursday!

so lately, i've been obsessed with calendars and finding the right one. i know - thrilling, right? i think its because i just got my new cubical and its really dreary and dark (no windows nearby). i want to add some excitement in the form of calendar and i need to find the right one. i've been looking on etsy and have found a bunch, but not one i'm decided on.

last year, i got my desk calendar from ilee and it looks just as promising this year... but maybe i should switch it up? this is way too much thought into a desk calendar, but hey - its my blog and my cubicle.. i'll do what i want.

daylight saving time fun!

exciting daylight saving time facts! because today is the first day of NABLOPOMO!!

1. it's daylight saving time, not daylight savings time.

2. the blue areas below follow daylight saving time:

3. according to wikipedia, extra afternoon daylight reduces traffic fatalities.

good luck to all my fellow nablopomo'ers!

my favorite things

i was really excited when i read this week's "talk to me tuesday" on Tip Junkie - so much so that I had to run around with my camera the minute i read it! meaning no nice morning light. instead i have night-time lighting, so bear with me.

this week's topic is "Top 10 Favorite Things In My House" and i'm not sure if this qualifies because i don't even have a house! nate & i just moved into our first apartment last month, so we don't have very many "things", let alone a house :)

i now present.. the Top 10 Favorite Things that have traveled with me from college dorm to small apartment to my current abode! (in no specific order)

#1

Table Mirror (Urban Outfitters)
now i know i'm short, but our bathroom medicine cabinet was installed by giants because i can't see into the mirror (or reach past the first shelf). so i got this little mirror. which makes me happy. i mean, just look at the little bird on top:

who better to help you with your make-up?

#2

Bird Print from Joom (Etsy)

#3

Carved Wooden Giraffe from Jamaica
my mom and I bought this giraffe as a souvenir in Jamaica after climbing the Dunn's River Falls. he hasn't found a proper home in our new apartment yet, so for now he's guarding the side table.

#4 & #5

Trivets & Teapot
i have these displayed above my stove because they make me happy to look at. these are flea-market finds and i like to think that one day i'll be on antiques roadshow and they will tell me that my trivet collection and silver teapot are priceless and i will feign surprise because i already knew they were special.

#6

Little Red Ceramic Bowl (and more trivets)
this one is sad because i loved this bowl so much. it's chinese red color, its imperfections. i loved running my fingers across it's smooth surface. and then one day it fell on the floor and smashed into a bunch of pieces.

and so i glued them all back together. piece by piece.

and now it sits on my stove and i still love it even with all of its imperfections.

#7

Hand-made flower vase (Etsy)

you can't tell, but it's lime green inside, which makes it pretty enough to leave out even when there aren't any flowers in it!

#8

Kurt Halsey poster "Everything Adventurous"
this is the only poster that made it from dorm to our apartment living room wall. i love this poster because i am a huge kurt halsey fan (although i don't have any tattoos) and it reminds me of college.

#9

Espresso Cups & Saucers
number of times i have drank espresso = ZERO
number of times i have re-organized the mix and match saucers to gaze fondly upon them = HUNDREDS

#10

The Boyfriend. :)
this post is on our anniversary, so i'm allowed to be sappy... he's my favorite thing that is in our apartment! here's to four of the best years of our lives and our first month living together!

oh, and we don't actually live near the ocean - this is from our vacation.

thanks for letting me share! i can't wait to see everyone's posts!
